Business Analyst – ETRM / Aligne Project

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Role: Business Analyst/ Project Manager
Location: Houston, TX 77002 | Hybrid- 3 Days onsite

Overview:
Our client is seeking a Business Analyst to support a high-visibility initiative involving ETRM system integration and trade scheduling optimization. This role will focus on migrating trade activities and scheduling functions into the Aligne platform, and ensuring seamless coordination across the risk and trading operations. The ideal candidate brings strong initiative, working knowledge of energy markets, and preferably Aligne or ETRM experience.

Responsibilities:

• Partner with business and technical stakeholders to support a scheduler project focused on commissioning energy molecules and migrating processes to Aligne
• Document current and future-state workflows, ensuring system alignment with risk and trading functions
• Collaborate with the PM and technical teams to deliver requirements, UAT plans, and status updates
• Lead or support A-Board meetings and other project status reviews as needed
• Drive clarity across cross-functional teams, eliminating blockers and surfacing gaps in process or execution
• Ensure accurate reporting and risk visibility during and post-migration

Required Qualifications:

• 5+ years of Business Analyst experience in energy trading, risk, or scheduling environments
• Familiarity with ETRM systems (Aligne strongly preferred)
• Experience working with risk, trading, or scheduling teams in natural gas or power markets
• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and quickly understand complex business processes
• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to integrate well with high-performing, no-nonsense teams

Work Environment & Culture Fit:

• This is a high-performance team – strong personalities, fast-paced expectations
• Onsite required: Must be based in Houston and available to work 4+ days/week in-office
• Strong communication and adaptability are key; this is not a passive BA role
• Prior hires were released due to personality mismatch – team fit is critical

Additional Notes:
Has worked on software development teams, not just supported operations.

• Is fluent in Agile methodologies and has participated in sprint cycles.
• Has hands-on experience with Azure DevOps (ADO) or a similar tool to track:
• Epics, user stories, acceptance criteria
• Sprint planning, backlog grooming, UAT
• Understands and contributes to the software development life cycle (SDLC) – from requirements gathering to deployment.

This role is not for someone who:

• Simply reports issues to developers (i.e., “support BA”).
• Only works post-deployment or on system admin tasks.
• Doesn’t understand the upstream flow of a technical project or how code gets delivered and tested.
