Duration: 18+ month contract with potential to convert or extend
Pay Rate: $35-$42/hour

Job Overview:
We are seeking a motivated Junior OSI Network Engineer to join a high-impact engineering team supporting our client’s Business/Enterprise operations. This newly created role plays a critical part in certifying and managing firmware for network and video infrastructure devices used by small-to-medium businesses (SMBs) such as hospitals, banks, and schools.
This is a hands-on, onsite, technical role focused on hardware testing and firmware lifecycle management. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundational understanding of the OSI model (Layers 1-7) and a desire to grow within a collaborative environment alongside senior network engineers and hardware vendors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the certification and lifecycle management of firmware for various network and video devices
- Collaborate with multiple vendors to test and validate firmware updates
- Learn and execute firmware testing procedures (training provided)
- Operate in a multi-million-dollar lab environment to ensure device performance and compatibility
- Work with switches, access points, Fortinet G Series equipment, cameras, and sensors
- Assist in documenting and validating network configurations
- Coordinate across internal teams including WiFi, video, and product engineering
- Apply knowledge in daily troubleshooting and technical support

Qualifications:
- 0-2 years of relevant experience (ideal for recent grads, field techs, or junior network engineers)
- Strong foundational knowledge of the OSI model (Layers 1-7)
- Familiarity with networking protocols, hardware, and firmware processes
- Comfortable with Cisco CLI and understanding Layer 2/3 protocols (e.g., OSPF, STP, MPLS)
- Working knowledge of fiber types, CWDM/DWDM/PON technologies, and subnetting
Preferred Skills (Not Required):
- Experience with Fortinet devices
- Understanding of VLANs, QoS (802.1p/q), and failover protocols
- Exposure to networking lab environments and testing processes
Preferred Certifications:
- CompTIA Network+
- CompTIA Security+
- Cisco CCNA, CCNP, or CCIE
- Juniper JNCIA-Junos
