Senior Machine Design Engineer

Job description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and optimize industrial automation for the production and assembly of cell encapsulation devices.
  • Evaluate and select new equipment and technologies, making modifications to existing systems to support new processing requirements.
  • Design mechanical components and assemblies, including cam-driven systems, kinematic design, and cam-follower mechanisms.
  • Develop, design, and build custom equipment and integrate robotic end-effector designs for automation solutions.
  • Perform tolerance stack-up analysis, stress analysis, and other mechanical design analyses.
  • Design 3D CAD models and create engineering drawings (with GD&T), collaborating with vendors to produce prototype and production parts.
  • Support the qualification and validation of manufacturing equipment and processes, including FAT, SAT, IQ, OQ, PQ.
  • Troubleshoot automation hardware and systems, ensuring repeatability and performance.
  • Ensure smooth technology transfer and continuous improvement across engineering and manufacturing teams.

Qualifications:

  • BS/MS in Engineering with 8+ years (or 5+ years with MS) of experience in equipment design, machinery design, or mechanical engineering.
  • Proven experience designing, developing, and building automated systems, including cam systems, servo systems, and robotic end-effector designs.
  • Expertise in 3D CAD design (preferably SolidWorks or equivalent), with experience in designing mechanical components, assemblies, and GD&T.
  • Strong understanding of tolerance stack-up analysis, kinematic design, and cam-driven assemblies.
  • Hands-on experience in robotics and process instrumentation (including Siemens PLC/HMI, Epson, UR, and PC-based systems).
  • Familiarity with ISO 13485, ISO 14971, and 21 CFR 820 in a regulated manufacturing environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, Six Sigma Green Belt, or equivalent DMAIC experience preferred.
  • Excellent communication, technical writing, and collaboration skills to support cross-functional teams.
