Mechanical Design Engineer

Job description

Dexian has been engaged to identify a skilled Mechanical Fixture Design Engineer for a major national retail organization that is based in Dublin, California. The Mechanical Engineer will utilize his/her mechanical engineering knowledge, project management skills, and input from leaders, business partners and vendors, to design, develop, test, validate and roll out store fixtures that meet specified requirements for cost, timing, quality, reliability, durability, function, and appearance.

This is a six-month plus contract with the high potential to extend. The working arrangement is three days a week onsite in Dublin, California.

To be considered, the Engineer must be able to work for Dexian on a W2 basis and not through a third-party employer.

ENGINEERING FUNCTIONS:

  • Ensure that designs are complete, accurate, timely, and on budget, to support project implementation dates as planned.
  • Review renderings, mockups, physical prototypes, test reports, manufacturing drawings, first production samples, and assembly instructions, for conformance to design requirements.
  • Proactively identify and communicate any potential nonconformances to supervisor and partners. Develop and evaluate potential solutions to address.
  • Visit manufacturing facilities, test labs, and stores, to validate that production quality and installation quality is to standard. Publish accurate visit recaps within 24 hours.

PROJECT MANAGEMENT:

  • Conduct project meetings with vendors and business partners and publish accurate meeting recaps within 24 hours.
  • Provide the supervisor and business partners with accurate comprehensive weekly tracking of assigned projects. Maintain current issue log. Upload required project documentation.
  • Support engineering design reviews with business partners and executives as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS & SPECIALIZED SKILLS:

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering
  • 5+ years of engineering experience that includes design, development, testing, validation, and rollout.
  • Strong cross-functional project management and quality management skills.
  • Advanced skills in Excel, PowerPoint, AutoCAD and Solid Works required.
  • Ability to communicate complex findings clearly and succinctly, both verbally and written.
  • High comfort level working in ambiguous, rapidly changing environments.
  • Outstanding work ethic displaying a high sense of urgency to resolve issues quickly and efficiently.
  • Superior analytical skills, including mathematical, financial and problem solving.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Requires sitting, standing, walking, hearing, talking on the telephone, attending in-person meetings, typing, and working with paper/files.
  • Requires ability to use manual and power tools to assemble, test and disassemble store fixtures.
  • Requires the ability to lift up to 35 pounds.
  • Consistent timeliness and regular attendance.
  • Vision requirements: Ability to see information in print and/or electronically and capable of distinguishing hues of color (e.g., varying shades of white)
  • This role requires regular in-office presence; however, this role can perform duties effectively using a combination of in-office and remote work.
