Overview
The Vice President, Financial Planning & Analysis, reports to the Chief Financial Officer with direct accountability for providing strategic insights and evidence-based analytics to influence decisions, based on detailed forecasting of future financial performance and associated operating metrics. The incumbent will lead, manage and enhance overall financial and strategic planning, budgeting and forecasting processes as well as operational planning. This includes responsibility for business and financial strategies, analysis of operating performance and new business opportunities.

The Vice President of Financial, Planning & Analysis will serve as a key member of the financial leadership team. This individual will continually assess the company’s financial and operating performance and assist with developing strategic plans for the company’s future growth and success. The incumbent will be a self-starter with experience partnering with colleagues to drive value, growth, and positive organizational change.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a key business partner and contributor to growth strategies, tactics, short, mid and long-range planning, ensuring that all growth strategies are enhancing profitability and creating enterprise value.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress towards strategic goals and objectives.
  • Develop and provide timely reporting on competitor profitability and industry benchmarking.
  • Advise senior management on the financial implications of new customer opportunities and business initiatives; make recommendations to enhance financial performance; collaboratively develop programs for the attainment of corporate objectives.
  • Act as an internal consultant and consider quantitative, qualitative, and strategic factors in business evaluations.
  • Work closely with operational executives as a financial and strategic business partner.
  • Develop and provide timely, in-depth analysis to senior management regarding financial, operational, and productivity results.
  • Develop financial modeling to evaluate new customer opportunities.
  • Partner with actuarial services, clinical operations, business development and legal on contract structures, terms and conditions.
  • Ensure accurate financial reporting, profitability analysis and performance management for all in-force customer agreements.
  • Collaborate with the CFO on the annual budget and long-term financial planning processes; ensure alignment with overall strategic objectives.
  • Analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual expense patterns, providing reports and alternatives to CFO.
  • Lead projects and studies related to expense performance, resource efficiency and profitability outlook.
  • Work with stakeholders across the organization to prioritize and analyze capital investment decisions. Assist senior management with the evaluation of project proposals and recommendations.
  • Provide a monthly reporting package that includes actionable analysis of key business trends and actual versus planned variances, including comprehensive explanations of identifiable differences. Based on detailed analysis, develop plans to mitigate operating and financial shortfalls and leverage initiatives that are outperforming the Company’s goals.
  • Provide support for ad-hoc financial projects and analysis along with financial presentations for the CFO, CEO and Board of Directors.
  • Lead and develop the Financial Planning and Analysis team. Ensure that the department consistently meets the needs of the CFO and senior management.

General Duties:

  • Leadership: Lead in defining and executing strategies and solutions to create business value, including coaching, and supporting employees on technical fiscal duties and procedures.
  • Strategic: Establish the business strategy and roadmap: (1) improve outcomes for patients; and enhance the efficacy of other business divisions. The Vice President of Financial, Planning & Analysis will help define and support innovative revenue models to drive sustained profitability for the Company.
  • Communication: Excellent verbal, written communication, and presentation skills; ability to clearly articulate and present concepts and models in an accessible manner to the company’s team, investors, partners, and other stakeholders

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
The successful candidate will have 10+ years of experience in the field of finance, business development, strategic planning, financial modeling and analysis, capital budgeting, and strong familiarity with corporate accounting. Preference will be given to individuals with experience in risk-based financial arrangements as a provider or payer in the healthcare industry. This individual will have demonstrated leadership in a national/global organization and be a hands-on entrepreneurial executive who is able to deliver value-added business analysis.

EDUCATION
A bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or economics is required. An advanced master’s degree or an MBA is desirable.

The working environment and physical requirements of the job include:
In-office work (minimum three days per week) is performed indoors in a traditional office setting with conditioned air, artificial light, and an open workspace.
In this position you will need to communicate with customers, vendors, management, and other co-workers in person and over devices, sometimes with people who are agitated. Regular use of the telephone and e-mail for communication is essential. Sitting for extended periods is common. Must be able to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents. Lifting of up to 10 lbs. occasionally may be required. Good manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment such as computer terminals and copiers. Good reasoning ability is important. Able to understand and utilize management reports, memos, and other documents to conduct business.
