Position: Senior Mainframe Systems Programmer

Hiring Manager Notes:

• Needs to be in approved state: MD, DC, VA & WV.. May be called into office for meetings once a quarter or something to the DC office.
• Everything connected to the mainframe is coming via Java and MQ.
• Supporting project teams that are developers so needs to be able to comm with them. Sometimes they get calls from Devs asking for help in certain areas, but not a lot of dev/coding going on more so just supporting coders (COBOL).
• Looking for a z/OS Infrastructure resource who can help manage several different environments that Client has but who can also help other teams on some COBOL dev from time to time.
• Needs strong mainframe z/OS system expertise and App dev exp as well. Needs to be able to configure mainframe system and troubleshoot issues.
• Day to day is keeping up with infrastructure updates. Coordinating those requests that go to Ensono, helping with dev/performance issues that occur or they will pass on to the service provider Ensono. Basically a little bit of systems programming (so you can accurately pass a request over to Ensono (if not able to handle themselves) to execute and then be able to test it afterwards to make sure it works.
• Needs to be technical enough to translate things to Ensono and then be able to understand what Ensono sends back to the internal teams.
• Key requirements: MQ series exp, someone who understands dev lifecycle on mainframe, mainframe programming expertise, CICS, DB2, Linux and AIX platform exp.
• Any automation exp with z/OSMF and REXX would be ideal. Wants a thinker and someone who can provide some process improvement solutions/ideas. They use some Ansible playbooks for automation as well built on Python.

8-10 Years’ Experience as a Senior Mainframe Systems Programmer background is required

• Infrastructure Engineer with a hands-on experience
• Building robust Mainframe environments
• Scripting and process Automation experience Required
• Extensive knowledge of Mainframe Systems methodology and frameworks

The position requires advance knowledge of configurating Development and Production environments comprised of the below listed components:

5-10 years of z/OS Systems Programming experience

CICS TS for z/OS

CICS Webservices

MQ for z/OS

DB2 for z/OS

Control-M for z/OS

IBM System Automation for z/OS

REXX Programming

z/OSMF – Working Knowledge of Workflows

Candidate will be supporting various project teams and their mainframe related needs on a day-to-day basis

Candidate will be leveraging their skills to automate configuration processes on the mainframe using above toolset

• Extensive knowledge of MQ Series
• Extensive SDLC experience with some development or Systems programming experience
• Ability to analyze and trouble-shoot Mid-tier/infrastructure issues.
• Very strong verbal and written communication skills (Critical)
• Ability to facilitate technical requirements gathering and design sessions
• Collaborate and interpret business and technical needs
• Excellent attention to detail and quality work products (Critical)
• Strong customer service skills with internal and external customers (Critical)
• Must be able to perform assigned tasks with minimum supervision (Critical)
• Strong analytical and documentation skills
• Excellent time management ability (Critical)
