Lab Automation Technician

Title: Clinical Researcher

Duration : 6 + Months

Location : Chesterfield, MO

This position is in Precision Genomics St. Louis Production Genotyping lab. The candidate will be working collaboratively with a large production team of FTEs and contractors to deliver daily and weekly genotyping targets under tight deadlines. The candidate will primarily be responsible for operating manual and automated lab processes in the Extraction (sample processing) lab. The role may also include additional various tasks in autonomous maintenance, general lab stocking, supply upkeep and supporting the Detection team in their daily workflow.

Desired skills for the ideal candidate:
1. Demonstrate reliability: This is a business-critical position to keep our lab running 7 days a week across multiple shifts. The candidate must be a reliable presence on this shift. Position may require flexible or off shift hours during peak times.
2. High Throughput/production/sample management: Our lab processes 2+ million samples per year with fast turn-around times. Any experience handling a large number of samples daily (lab, etc), or in a fast-paced environment (retail, food service, etc) is a plus. Experience with LIMS is a plus.
3. Automation/mechanical aptitude: The candidate must be comfortable running and troubleshooting automation independently with little guidance on this shift. Biologists with engineering/technical aptitudes are encouraged to apply.

Performs laboratory technical tasks. Responsible for the care and maintenance of laboratory equipment. Will be responsible in the operation of the equipment and the gathering of data. Assists with receipt and inspection of raw materials, ordering and stocking.

Processing samples through Extraction (Sample processing) via manual and automated lab equipment, prepping, stocking lab consumables, sample prep and supporting greater team members in their workflows.

Primarily 3-4 direct employees and contractors working this same lab area and shift.

A large team of about 45 people across multiple shifts, nights and weekends; around 40% contractors. Team dynamic is outgoing, productive, results orientated, and strong communication between shifts. The team performs a high volume of work in a casual atmosphere.

Attention to detail, strong work ethic, sense of urgency, excellent communication skills, good organizational skills, ability to make decisions independently. Candidates with experience in fast-paced settings (even non-lab related; i.e. restaurants/ retail/ shipping) are usually high performers on our team.
