ONSITE, 5 DAYS PER WEEK – PHILADELPHIA, PA

Network Engineer

Purpose

Responsible for administering, maintaining, and supporting the Train Control computer systems and network equipment through implementation of hardware and software upgrades to maintain a secure and reliable operating level. Development and monitoring of security policies and practices for Train Control System’s equipment, and development of operating and trouble-shooting procedures. Directly interfaces with technical and management staff. Works with technical staff in the performance of ongoing system maintenance, enhancements, and daily operations.

Essential Functions

· Leads Train Control System support staff in rigorous detailed technical analysis, design, development, and implementation of all aspects of the maintenance and enhancement of the Train Control Systems.

· Be an integral part of twenty-four by seven availability of four Train Control Systems facilities and network infrastructures, extensive fault-tolerant network capabilities ensuring continuous operations of train movement throughout the Train Control Systems.

· Configures, administers, and maintains RedHat, Windows systems.

· Interfaces with outside technical specialists in the review of system problem resolution, and system upgrades.

· Plans and implements operating systems, hardware, and software upgrades to maintain the equipment at a secure and reliable operating level.

· Configures and supports networking, including routers, switches, and firewalls.

· Helps Develop, implement, and monitor network security policy and practices.

· Helps Develop operating and trouble-shooting procedures for technical staff. Assists with emergency system and network support technical staff on a 24/7 basis. Develops and maintains documentation on network architecture and administrative procedures.

Requirements

· Bachelor’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience required.

· Must have minimum 7+ years’ experience in similar real-time SCADA control systems and their operations, and 7+ years’ experience in networking, workstation, and server operating systems with detailed knowledge in the configuration, implementation and maintenance of multiple platform computer systems hardware and operating system software.

· Experience in progressing hardware/software projects through their entire lifecycle including specification, design, implementation, testing, maintenance, and documentation.

· Detailed knowledge in the design, configuration and maintenance of communications networks including switches, routers, and firewalls.

· Extensive knowledge in security practices on RedHat, Windows PC/Servers and network connections.

· Skill in oral and written communication to present technical designs, operational procedures, and system documentation.

· Ability to interact and deal effectively with individuals and committees with diverse, non-technical backgrounds.

· Experience in progressing hardware/software projects through their entire lifecycle including specification, design, implementation, testing, maintenance, and documentation.

· General knowledge of railroad operations and signaling and electrification concepts.

Preferred

· Master’s degree in computer science or a related field.

· 10 years’ experience in similar real-time SCADA control systems and their operations, experience in networking, workstation, and server operating systems with detailed knowledge in the configuration, implementation and maintenance of multiple platform computer system hardware and operating system software.

Work Environment

· Position requires occasional overnight and weekend work while performing maintenance or upgrades that require system or network outage.

· Position requires occasional scheduled On Call duty during peak periods or other critical times.

· Time sensitive emergency situations require immediate fault identification and implementation of corrective action in high-pressure situations.

· Travel 25 percent.
